Abdul Hasan did spark some hope for the Dhaka warriors, but it was Comilla Victorians who played a complete game to clinch a convincing win over Dhaka Dynamites.
Earlier in the match, Ashar Zaidi’s vital cameo of 45 from 29 balls guided the Victorians to 141 in the allotted 20 overs. Zaidi smacked three towering sixes and couple of strokeful boundaries en-route to a handy innings. Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper Liton Das laid the perfect foundation for the Victorians with a solid 31 from 34 balls, courtesy two boundaries. The batting side were restricted to 52/4 in the 11th over, but Dhaka failed to make them press the panic button, as Karachi born Zaidi made a mark and ensured a par score.
Farhad Reza was the pick of the bowlers for Dhaka Dynamites, he picked up the wickets of opener Ahmed Shehzad and ended Shuvagata Hom’s quick-fire 20 off 11 balls. Yasir Shah also came good with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for 26 runs. The Dynamites conceded eight extra’s, while Mustafizur, Mosharraf and Nasir scalped one wicket each.
Dhaka’s chase hit the roadblocks early on, with Shoaib Malik’s bulls eye resulting in a run-out. In-form Kumar Sangakkara did well to steady the ship, but opener Shadman Islam followed Shykat Ali soon. Nasir Hossain’s calculated risks did turn out to be a blessing for the Dynamites, as the Victorians failed to cash in on the half chances.
25 runs were needed from 12 balls, as Abu Hider’s waist height full toss found Shuvagata Hom sweeper cover. With only eight runs coming from that over, Dhaka were left with an asking rate of 17 in the last over. Sri Lankan premier bowler Kulasekara did well to bowl at the pads and kept it tight; resulting in a 10 runs win for the Victorians.
For Victorians, it was Abu Hider who controlled the flow of runs and bowled a match changing penultimate over. He picked up 2 wickets for 30 runs while Shuvagata Hom chipped in with Shadman Islam’s wicket. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza also had an impressive outing, as he bowled an economical spell of four overs for 18 runs and picking up the dutchman’s wicket.
