Babar Azam and Steve Smith are two of the most talented cricketers doing the rounds in world cricket. For Smith, he has mostly shone in Tests, though his numbers in ODIs and T20Is aren’t meek by any stretch of the imagination. Back in 2018, he was slapped with a one-year suspension after he was found guilty in the ball-tampering saga. But Smith hasn’t allowed the situation to unnerve him.
He made his comeback in the 2019 World Cup and then went on to become the leading run-scorer in the Ashes. In the Test series in England, he also suffered a concussion, but came back to smash a double century. Smith is currently the ICC’s number-one ranked Test batter. Babar Azam, on the other hand, has come up the ranks in the last couple of years and has carved a niche for himself.
The Young Turk is currently Pakistan’s stalwart across formats. Moreover, the Lahore-born talent is ICC’s number one ranked T20I batter by a country mile. He has performed to such an extent that he has been appointed as the T20I skipper, replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed.
The latter faced a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka after which he had to face the axe. The management then picked Babar as the skipper in the Australia tour. In the last four months or, Babar has also upped his game in Test cricket, smashing tons at will.
Brad Hogg makes his pick
In the meantime, Brad Hogg, the former Australian cricketer, conducted a Question and Answer session on Twitter. The tweaker must have found it as one of the ways to spend the self-isolation time amidst the lockdown due to the coronavirus. He was bombarded with plenty of questions.
One of the supporters also asked him to make a choice between Steve Smith, the Aussie batsman, and Babar Azam, the Pakistan batter who has taken rapid strides in cricket at the highest level.
The fan took to the social media platform and wrote, “Who is best? Sir…. Babar or smith”. But Hogg didn’t have much doubts in naming Babar. He replied, writing, “Babar, haven’t got him out yet.”
Here is Hogg’s reply
