'Break the door, they can’t avoid you for long' - Harbhajan Singh to Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, on Friday, once again showed just how much devastation he can cause as a finisher as he starred for India C in their Deodhar Trophy-opener. The Mumbai star played a blistering knock to propel India C to a mammoth total. He smashed 72 runs from just 29 balls to help his side post up 366 for 3.

Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill gave India C a solid start by scoring centuries and adding 226 runs for the first wicket. Suryakumar Yadav had started his innings on a cautious note and scored 17 from the first 15 balls he faced. But it did not take him long to shift gears and blow away India A with some unbelievable hitting.

In the last 14 balls he faced, he amassed 55 runs to take India C to the big total. During that phase, he hit seven fours and four sixes. Overall, he finished his innings by scoring 9 fours and 4 maximums. The right-handed batsman completed his fifty from just 24 balls as he showed once again that he is ready for the big stage.

India C went on to win the game comfortably, thrashing India A by 232 runs. After the batting heroics from Gill, Agarwal and Yadav, Jalaj Saxena starred with the ball. The spinner picked up seven wickets for just 41 runs to help India C bowl out India A for just 134 inside 30 overs. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored for India A with 31.

Praise from Harbhajan Singh

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, meanwhile, once again took to Twitter to praise Suryakumar Yadav. A couple of months ago too, the spinner had praised the batsman for his knock in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Lavishing praise on the Mumbai star, Harbhajan said he wished to see him bat in the same manner for India.

He also urged Suryakumar to keep performing so that the selectors would find it tough to ignore him, tweeting, “Well done @surya_14kumar that is special.. wish to see you bat like this for india soon.. they says keep knocking on the door but it’s time to break the door..keep putting such performance so they can’t avoid you for long @BCCIdomestic @mipaltan”
