The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end with Mumbai Indians (MI) defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final and lifting their fifth IPL trophy. As the tournament has ended, many cricket analysts and pundits are coming up with their opinions regarding the players and the teams.
The new addition to this list is former Australian paceman Brett Lee. The veteran closely watches the whole tournament as he was one of the experts for the official broadcasters. The Indian league is a platform where many uncapped and underrated players get a chance to rub shoulders with the greats of the game and get recognized for their talent and class in the cricket fraternity.
This year was no different as many uncapped domestic players managed to make a global statement with their heroics. While interacting with Star Sports, Lee opined on the two Indian youngsters who managed to impress him the most with their performances in IPL 2020.
Devdutt Padikkal bags the Emerging Player of the season award
Brett Lee spoke highly of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal, who made his debut in the IPL this year, and Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Rahul Tewatia. Lee also praised runners-up Delhi Capitals for playing some fearless brand of cricket and emphasised on how hard it was to conduct the tournament in the absence of the fans.
“It has been incredible. It has been hard with no fans, but to me, the best part of this season has been the young Indian players coming through. The Devdutt Padikkals, the Tewatias… We have seen the Delhi Capitals play some really good cricket, so, I will say the fast bowlers too, but I will always say the fast bowlers,” Brett Lee said while speaking to Star Sports.
The opening batsman Devdutt impressed the who’s who of the cricket fraternity with his class with the willow. The 20-year-old was named the emerging player of IPL 2020 and finished as the highest run-getter for RCB which boasts of having legends like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Aaron Finch on their side. Padikkal accumulated 473 runs in 15 games at 31.53 with five half-centuries while maintaining a strike rate of 124.
Rahul Tewatia, on the other hand, was a revelation for Rajasthan Royals. The all-rounder stunned the audience with his brilliant batting, tight bowling and acrobatic fielding skills. Tewatia scored 255 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 139 and picked up ten wickets.
