Former West Indies captain Brian Lara is in Mumbai and is a part of the expert panel for the official broadcaster of the ICC Cricket World Cup, Star Sports. He has been participating in their shows and commentating from the studio for the last few weeks and while most people are prepping up for the business end of the tournament Lara has a health scare. He was on Tuesday admitted to a Mumbai hospital as he complained of chest pain.

He had travelled to England for the Indian vs Pakistan contest earlier this month and returned back to the city for further coverage. Lara was at an event in a hotel and experienced discomfort, he was immediately taken to the Global Hospital in Parel. As per reports the cricketer seems to have suffered a minor heart scare but is out of danger.

As per Marathi Daily, Loksatta, Dr Praveen Kulkarni at the Global Hospital attended and diagnosed Lara. Based on the initial suggestions, he was taken for an angiography since it seemed to be a heart issue. The report from the tests seem to have turned out normal and there was no immediate threat that had to be addressed. Thus they haven’t opted for an angioplasty.

Nothing to worry

Lara had taken a break during India vs Afghanistan game from commentary and other coverage. He was expected to be back for the Indian team’s match against Windies. “He was complaining of unease but he’s absolutely fine now. There’s nothing to worry,” TOI quoted sources as saying.

The legendary cricketer in his career played 131 Test matches, 299 ODIs in those outings he piled on 11953 and 10405 runs in respective formats. He scored 34 hundreds and 48 fifties in the Test format while the number was 19 and 63 in ODIs. Lara also captained the West Indies team to success and is one of the greatest cricketers to have donned the jersey.

Along with being the country’s highest run-scorer in both the formats as well as International cricket he has several other records like the highest individual Test score to his name.
