Cricket has witnessed some of the greatest players in its history and Brian Lara is one of them. He is the only batsman to have scored 400 runs in a single inning in Test cricket and the record is unlikely to be broken with the way Test cricket is being played these days. For him to be praise someone, the cricketer has to be extremely special. Recently, the former West Indian legend picked the best batsman and bowler of the modern cricketing generation.
Lara played in an era of legends across the world. The likes of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Daniel Vettori, Sachin Tendulkar among many others and it is very tough to replace such cricketers. But the current lot is trying its best to keep the game interesting and no wonder a few of them are the best in the business.
Who are the players?
Brian Lara visited New York on Wednesday as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Trophy Tour and spilt the beans about the various cricketing topics during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ event. He spoke about the toughest bowler he has ever faced and about his historic 400-run knock as well. However, when asked about the best batsman and bowler of the current generation, Lara picked Virat Kohli and Joe Root as superior with the willow.
James Anderson and Kagiso Rabada are the best bowlers in the world currently according to Lara. His picks are indeed justified with the way Kohli is batting currently. He is also World’s number one Test batsman and stood tall in the ongoing Test series against England. Even Root is England’s best batsman and is tipped to become one of the greatest in the near future.
As far as Anderson is concerned, he is all set to become the most successful fast bowler in the world and is only four wickets away from overtaking McGrath. Rabada, on the other hand, has taken over the mantle from the seniors and is now a leading bowler in the World in all formats.
