Another game and another failure for Suresh Raina! The dasher is indeed having a hard time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Although Chennai Super Kings have done well as a unit, Raina doesn’t have much to show in terms of individual records. His latest failure came against Rajasthan Royals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

With the openers adding 47 runs for the wicket, the stage was set for Raina to play a substantial knock. Notably, the southpaw was batting at number five in his last few outings. However, he was slotted back at number three for this fixture. Unfortunately for the three-time champions, Raina couldn’t end his lean patch and got out after scoring three off five balls. This was Raina’s fourth single-digit score in his last six outings. Hence, fans weren’t amused.

Speaking of his dismissal, it was the ninth over of CSK innings and Rahul Tewatia was operating with the ball. The leg-spinner pitched the ball up and Raina’s eyes lit up. In order to go over the ropes, the southpaw went one down knee and smashed the ball. However, he didn’t make the required connection as Shivam Dube took a fine catch at deep mid-wicket.

Suresh Raina endures yet another failure

This way Raina’s brief stay at the crease ended. It has to be noted that Raina gave IPL 2020 a miss citing personal reasons. With the swashbuckler announcing retirement from international cricket last year, many even believed CSK would release him ahead of the auction event. However, the Chennai-based franchise kept their faith in Raina and retained him.

The left-handed batter even justified their decision, scoring a half-century in CSK’s first assignment. However, he endured regular failures after that knock and earned criticism from several corners. Overall, he has scored 160 runs in 12 matches so far with his average and strike rate being below 20 and 130 respectively.

With these numbers being far from impressive, Twitterati isn’t pleased with the batter’s mediocre show. Owing to the same, his place in the playing XI also came under the scanner.  Notably, a veteran batter in form of Robin Uthappa has been warming the benches for CSK this season. Hence, many believe he should replace Raina in the next game.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Suresh Raina’s continuous failures:
