The Cricket Association of Bengal has decided to felicitate Virender Sehwag at the Eden Gardens just before the start of the India-Pakistan encounter. The legendary Virender Sehwag has already been felicitated on an occasion previously at the Feroz Shah Kotla just before the India v South Africa Test match.

Sehwag will be joined by Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Pakistan’s Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Intikhab Alam. The CAB also stated that they would be presenting mementos to these greats for their contribution to world cricket as well as their participation in Indo-Pak encounters. The occasion will be a special one as the presentations will take place in front of the large numbers in attendance for the Indo-Pak fixture.

Virender Sehwag has been a legend of the recent past. One of the greatest openers to be produced by India, Sehwag struck terror into bowlers with some amazing performances with the bat. His greatest moment in all his cricket probably came in the Test match at Multan. The title Sultan of Multan’ quickly transferred from Inzamam-ul-Haq to Sehwag with a brilliantly scored 319.

Ian Chappel, the former Australian captain has always advocated that being able to perform in different conditions is detrimental to the character of a great batsman. Well, in the case of Virender Sehwag, he has smashed centuries in Australia, Pakistan, West Indies and even England & Wales let alone India. Therefore, it is certainly no surprise that he is being felicitated in front of the vast expanse of the iconic Eden Gardens.

Sehwag announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in October 2015, bringing down the curtains on an amazing career. He will however, be a part of the Kings XI Punjab support staff.
