CAB seeks clearance to host day-night club match

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has expressed its willingness to host day-night Test matches with the pink ball. In a bid to host the day-night Tests in the future, the state board wishes to host a few club games under the lights with the pink ball. This would serve as a preparing venture for the board, expressed Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly, the president of the CAB, said that the board is planning to host the Super League final next month under the lights. However, they need to seek clearance to host such matches by the BCCI.

“Yes, we want to host to a pink-ball Test in the future. We will have to be ready for the requirements,” the former Indian skipper quoted. “As you know, we will try to host a local four-day match with the pink ball under the floodlights as a test. But we will have to get the clearance from the Board first,” added Ganguly.

The BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur recently announced that India would play its first ever day-night Test later this year against New Zealand. The New Zealand Cricket board, too, showed its keen interest in playing India in a day-night game. The West Bengal cricket board is very enthusiastic and hence wishes to showcase the preparedness of CAB for international day-night Tests.

Only one day-night Test has been played so far, that was between New Zealand and Australia. Now more and more teams are planning to schedule day-night matches. Pakistan are hoping to host West Indies in a day-night Test this year at UAE.
