Following Anil Kumble’s shock exit, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) i.e. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, has a huge task at hand of finding the Indian cricket team’s next coach. Although it was the CAC who had appointed Kumble as the head coach last year, Ganguly clarified that the committee was not involved in the mediation between Virat Kohli and the former coach.

He also said that the CAC was looking for a coach who is capable of guiding the team to victories. After attending the meeting of the state associations and the Committee of Administrators (CoA), the former Indian captain brushed aside questions about the CAC’s involvement in the rift between the captain and the coach with a “that’s not the case”.

On being asked what kind of coach they were looking for, he replied, “one who can win cricket matches,” Dada told India Today.

The Kohli-Kumble saga

Earlier last week, Kumble stepped down from his position following Team India’s Champions Trophy final defeat to Pakistan. He had stated that his partnership with Kohli had become “untenable” as the captain had “reservations with my ‘style’”.

Ganguly had opined that it was Kumble’s personal decision. “Quitting as coach was Kumble’s personal decision. I have spoken to both Virat and Anil. I am aware of everything but it would not be fair for me to say anything in public because I am part of the CAC,” he had said.

There had been reports of a rift between Kohli and Kumble right after the conclusion of the India-Australia series earlier this year.

After the coach stepped down and brought him in the centre of the whole scenario Virat had to come out and clarify his stand. Be he didn’t get into any details of what happened, how it happened or anything else and only restricted himself to saying, “Anil bhai has expressed his views and has taken a decision to step out. We all respect that decision. It is something that happened right after the tournament. “
