The gentleman’s game cricket is witnessing some ungentlemanly conduct by players these days. This time it is Australia’s talented but controversial cricketer, Cameron Bancroft who drew attention. Bancroft was fined yet again for unsportsmanlike conduct. This is the second time he has been fined in a period of about 18 months.

Bancroft has been charged with a Level 1 breach of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct after the latest round of the JLT Sheffield Shield against the Tasmanian Tigers on 14 March, informed Western Australia. The Western Warriors batter Bancroft was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.2 – abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.

Steve Barnard the match referee went through the report of the umpires and levied a fine of 50% of his match fee. This was Bancroft’s second such offence in a span of 18 months. This will certainly concern Cricket Australia as they are looking at the prospective players to be picked for the World Cup. He admitted the offence and there was no official hearing.

The 26-year-old had already made headlines on the other side of the world because of a heated dispute between his state and English county side Durham. He is also the player who put sandpaper down his trousers in Cape Town during the Test against South Africa. He was handed a nine-month ban for this, and this put an abrupt halt to his Test career for nine months.

His Test debut happened in the 2017-18 Ashes and he returned with an unbeaten 82 before it faded away during a series where he became infamously known for his role in the Jonny Bairstow ‘headbutt’ incident in a Perth bar earlier on the tour. Bancroft has been repeatedly caught in the disciplinary issues time and time again.

He will now want to be in line at least until the World Cup where the Men in Yellow will go out there to defend their title.
