Can the media leave Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma alone?

Media has taken over every aspect in sports and has a great impetus in shaping lifestyles of different people. At the same time, some media houses have made it an obsession to sneak into personal lives of various sporting personalities. While this may or might not make a difference in a celebrity’s life, it does effect after a certain point.

Sometimes the limits are exceeded way too far. Recently, it had reached up to a level, where Virat Kohli had to tweet and express shame regarding how things have been panned out. Nearly after every Kohli special or flop show, there’s a special pan of footage on his girlfriend Anushka Sharma’s expressions or whereabouts.

It doesn’t end there. Their relationships are discussed on public forums which is totally uncalled for. This is not a soap opera or a melodrama where they’re playing roles. What they do in their personal life should in no way be compared or portrayed to their professional life.

The worst thing about these media channels is creating rumors related to their marriage, breakup, holidaying at a spot, etc. For every Kohli failure, there’s Anushka news available on the sidelines. Adding to that, these articles are mostly based on sources which are genuine in no way, just click baits.

Instead of condemning various racist or vulgar jokes about them in social media, these media houses openly share them and give motivation to do more. The issue is when we stop bothering with the personal space of other people’s lives and focus on other grave issues.

While some journalists are sane enough to maintain the dignity of their company rather than falling off the aisle for TRPs, I can recall my memory to the 2015 World Cup semi-finals where some big journalists were questioning and holding debates on whether Anushka was a distraction for Kohli. Most of people in the debate had no relation with cricket whatsoever.

Imagine your boss blaming your better half for not doing your work properly and asking other office mates views on this. No way would anyone accept such indulgence or interference in their personal lives.

Until we refuse to grow up, until we refuse to indulge in such mediocre journalism, don’t expect the cricketers to not be stubborn or expect even a brink of information being frankly shared to any media. Respect their privacy and focus on the aspects that concern you!
