Indian Women’s team made it into their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, as they went through after their semi-final match against South Africa was abandoned due to the downpour of rain. Both the semifinals of the event are scheduled to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), with the second match between South Africa and Australia getting underway at the time.
Cricket Australia had requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to have reserve days for semi-final matches as well given that Sydney was experiencing heavy rains for some time now. However, the ICC refused their request as per tournament rules, reserve day is already allotted to the final of the event and there were provisions for the event of rains happening in semis.
England was highly critical of such kind of elimination and captain Heather Knight called it a shame for the tournament for one team’s journey ending in such a way. However, for the Harmanpreet Kaur led team it was the first time in finals in seven attempts and had lost to England in 2018 edition in semis as well. They will be facing the winner of South Africa-Australia semi-final on March 8, Sunday.

Harmanpreet Kaur mentioned that her team knew that they had to win every match in league stages if they didn’t get to play the semi-finals due to rain or some unforeseen circumstances.
“It is unfortunate not to get a game due to the weather. But that’s how the rules go. In the future, it would be nice to have a reserve day. From day one, we knew that we have to win all the games because if in case we don’t get any play in the semifinals, it will be hard for us. Credit to the team, we wanted to win all the games and we did it,” she was quoted in the post-match presentation.
