Back in 2014, Pat Cummins was racked up for Rs.1 Crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders. Six years later he’ll be steaming in to bowl in front of raucous Eden Gardens crowd with the tag of being the most expensive overseas cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League.

As expected Pat Cummins- the No.1 ranked Test bowler in the world- kickstarted a ragging bidding war with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore going hammer and tongs in order to claim the services of the champion fast bowler.

In the end, it was Kolkata Knight Riders who proceeded to hit the jackpot and leapfrog all the franchises when they successfully locked in Cummins for a whopping Rs 15.5 Crore. Cummins, not only became the most expensive overseas bid in the history of IPL Auctions, but he also became the bowler with the second-highest bid, finishing  Rs 50 Lakh shy of Yuvraj Singh’s record of Rs 16 Crore when the southpaw was racked up by Delhi Capitals.

The other members of the elusive list include Dinesh Karthik (12.50 Crore by Delhi Capitals in 2014), Ben Stokes (12.50 Crore by Rajasthan Royals in 2018) and Tymal Mills (12.00 Crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017)

Brendon McCullum and Pat Cummins involve in a hilarious banter post the auction

Apart from Pat Cummins, Kolkata Knight Riders also claimed the rights for the services of World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan for Rs 1.5 Crore. And, rightfully so, Head Coach Brendon McCullum was chuffed to bits. Baz McCullum took to Twitter where he wrote, “Two outstanding gentlemen will return to @KKRiders! @Eoin16 with his power middle order game & outstanding leadership help for @DineshKarthik & one of the games premier fast bowlers @patcummins30 who I feel was the best player on offer for this years @IPL auction Welcome boys! 💪🏻

And, the latest million dollar cricketer, Pat Cummins did not waste any time in replying to his coach. Cummins took to Twitter where he wrote, “Can’t wait Baz”.

And, it didn’t end here! Baz then proceeded to cheekily suggest Cummins that he should probably take rest from the rest of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.
