Knight Riders’ director Venky Mysore announced in a press conference, earlier today, that former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis will be the head coach of the Cape Town team for the T20 Global League. The official Twitter account of Cape Town Knight Riders posted a picture with a caption “We are excited to have jacqueskallis75 as Head coach and jpduminy21 as Captain of CapeTownKnightRiders.”

The South African T20 Global League will kick off on 3rd November and the fans just can’t keep calm, as the respective franchises have roped in some of the biggest names in T20 cricket. Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan owned Cape Town team will take part in the inaugural match against Pretoria Mavericks on November 3 at their home ground, Newlands in Cape Town. The final match of the tournament will be played on December 16 in Johannesburg.

Five different venues will host the opening weekend of matches, which will see all eight franchises in action. The League has announced 56 fixtures, with double headers on weekends and on several midweeks as well. Inspired from Tour de France schedule, there will be rest day/travelling days too.

Chris Gayle and Knight Riders are back together

The Cape Town franchise has also roped in West Indies basher Chris Gayle for the T20 League. Gayle has previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League- a Knight Rider franchise.

“CSA is happy to have attracted franchise owners from India and Pakistan. They are big names from Pakistan Super League and Indian Premiere League. The inclusion of such franchises will help this league become global. It would definitely create hype when they lock horns with each other. All four teams are very popular in their respective countries.” said Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Haroon Lorgat.

The League director Russell Adams is excited too. He said, “There is going to be non-stop action of the highest international quality from the League opener on November 3 right through to the final on December 16.”
