Apart from the senior team, the Sri Lankan U19 team also seems to be suffering from poor fortunes after their embarrassing performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup in Malaysia. Following such disastrous results, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board had devised to take stern measures against the management.

SLC has decided to let a lot of members lose as the team is set to bear a new look ahead of their upcoming tour of India. Led by President Thilanga Sumathipala, the board has made outright changes in the tour staff.

According to reports, legendary pacer Chaminda Vaas, who was the bowling coach of the team for the tournament, and team manager Mahinda Halangoda has been overlooked for the upcoming subcontinent tour. However, the bad management and uninspired contribution of Halangoda and Vaas respectively is the main reason for their removal from the tournament.

The team will be bearing a new look ahead of the India tour

An SLC official privy to the developments reported, “As a team manager, Halangoda committed many selection blunders that paved the way for Sri Lanka’s first-round exit from the U19 Asia Cup.”

The source also revealed that Chaminda failed to inspire the Sri Lankan youngsters as the bowling coach. The U19 team will play a Quadrangular tournament in India, starting from November 26. BCCI will put three U19 teams that will feature in the tournament- India Blue, India Green, and India Red. The tournament will be held at two venues in Mumbai.

The latest developments now imply there will be no physio with the team during the tournament. Also, senior team’s selector Gamini Wickramasinghe has been bestowed with the dual responsibility of being the manager and tour selector, while Roy Dias will coach the team. Moreover, the team will bear a new look, as nine players from the U19 Asia Cup squad have been dropped.
