Amidst all the brouhaha surrounding the participation of the team India in the Champions Trophy 2017, the recent reports suggest that the 15-man squad will be picked on May 8. The reports have surfaced the media which has potentially brought an end to all speculations surrounding India’s participation in the ICC mega event this year. As per the reports in the India Today, Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be a part of the selection procedure too.

He is currently leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore side in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. Hence, due to his commitments for the RCB camp, Kohli will attend the selection proceedings via a conference call. In the recent days, the tussle between the BCCI and the ICC over the revenue-sharing model has been the talking point in the cricket world.

Since the ICC opted for a change in the revenue model, the BCCI was left disappointed as it meant their shares go down by almost half of its previous value. From the USD 570 million, the shares in the part of the BCCI has come down to USD 293 million. The ICC meeting saw majority of the members vote for the new model and that left the BCCI isolated at the meeting.

Following the meeting, the board deliberately missed the deadline to submit the team India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. However, the CoA (appointed by the Supreme Court) wrote a letter to the BCCI Joint Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary ahead of the SGM scheduled to take place on May 7. The CoA asked the board to immediately announce the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy. Also, they have asked the board to solve all their internal matters to serve the best interest of cricket in the country.

Champions Trophy commences on June 1 with hosts England taking on Bangladesh. India will start their title defense against Pakistan on June 4.
