England is all set to host the Champions Trophy for the 3rd time, which is the 8th edition of the tournament and includes Bangladesh for the first time since 2006 at the cost of West Indies, one of the two 3-time finalists of the tournament. India, who are the defending champions will be looking to defend the title and become the 2nd team to do so after Australia.

Here we look at some key numbers and records related to CT 2017

4 – Number of wins for Australia over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, the most number of wins for a team over an opposition. Both the teams faced off in 5 games in CT with one game ending in no result. Both the teams will clash once again in the 2nd game of the tournament.

5 – Number of Champions Trophy editions Shoaib Malik has been a part of so far. He featured in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2013 editions of the CT. He is set to become only the 9th player to feature in 6 different editions.

5* – Number of consecutive losses in the Champions Trophy for Pakistan, the joint 3rd longest losing streak for any team in the tournament. They lost all the 5 games they played in CT since beating India in 2009. Zimbabwe (9) and Kenya (5) lost all the CT games while Bangladesh lost their first six games in the tournament’s history.

6* – Number of consecutive wins for India in the Champions Trophy, the 2nd longest winning streak for a team in the tournament. Team India won all the 6 games they played post the washout vs Australia in 2009. West Indies had won 7 in a row between 2002 and 2006 editions.

12 – Number of wickets Ravindra Jadeja has picked up in the previous edition of the Champions Trophy, the joint 2nd most by any player in a single CT edition. Jerome Taylor picked 13 in 2006 edition while Farveez Maharoof too had 12 wickets in that 2006 edition.

15 – Number of matches Team India has won in the Champions Trophy so far, the most by any team. Their win-loss ratio of 2.5 is easily the best for any team in the CT.

45 – Number of ODI wins for Australia over the teams playing this Champions Trophy since the last edition in 2013. No other team has won as many as 40 matches during this period against the teams participating in this CT.

100% – Among the teams which faced an opposition in 3 or more games in the CT, only two teams have 100% record over a certain opposition. India against England, India against South Africa and New Zealand against Pakistan won in all the three games they played with the particular opposition. Only India vs South Africa is possible among the above three during the group stage.

347/4 – New Zealand’s total of 347/4 vs the USA in 2004 is the highest total in the Champions Trophy history. There are only 11 totals of 300 recorded in the CT so far. Among the 8 teams playing in 2017 CT, Australia and Bangladesh are the only ones who are yet to post a 300+ total in this tournament.

363 – Runs scored by Shikhar Dhawan in the 2013 Champions Trophy; the 2nd most runs scored by any batsman in a single edition of the CT. Chris Gayle scored 474 runs in the 2006 edition.
