It was an intense battle and test of nerves last night when Chennai Super Kings took on the Delhi Daredevils. However, it was the MS Dhoni-led team, which rode to an empowering victory and ended up achieving a unique feat in the process. Chennai became only the second team to win 100 T20s in domestic cricket worldwide after Mumbai Indians. The ‘Yellow Brigade’ also muscled their way to the top of the IPL points table after their 13-run win against Delhi Daredevils at Pune’s MCA Stadium
Three-time IPL champions Mumbai is the first team to register 100 wins. In total, the Rohit Sharma-led side has won 104 encounters out of 186 matches they have played so far, losing 79. CSK hit the century mark, on the back of two power-packed half centuries from opening batsman, Australia’s Shane Watson and their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. While Watson once again displayed his baseball-style hitting on his way to a stormy 78 of just 40 balls, Dhoni provided a late flourish with his 22-ball 51 and took the team to a beyond par looking 211.
In the process, the yellow outfit, that has two IPL titles in its kitty, won the most number of encounters against Royal Challengers Bangalore (14), followed by Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals (12 each).
Only three IPL teams in the list of top 10 most wins
The only other Indian Premier League (IPL) team to feature in top 10 list of most number of wins registered in the Twenty20 format is Kolkata Knight Riders, apart from Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. With 90 wins in 172 encounters, KKR presently bags the seventh position in the list.
The other seven teams to make it top 10 of the said list are Hampshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Surrey, Essex and Somerset.
