In a very delighting news for the Chennai Super Kings fans, their favorite cricketer MS Dhoni is likely to lead the CSK franchise in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, the IPL Governing Council announced the various rules regarding the player retention policies for the upcoming auctions. Interestingly, the GC decided to let the teams retain a maximum of 3 capped Indian cricketers.

In all likelihood, this meant that MS Dhoni would be back in the yellow jersey in the premier T20 league. For the comeback teams, the Royals and the CSK, the GC announced that they will get to retain players from their pool of players who played for them in the 2015 edition of the IPL. Recently, as per the quotes in Sportskeeda, the team Director of CSK confirmed that they are not looking beyond MS Dhoni when it comes to naming their captain.

“We are very happy about it. But we haven’t applied our mind to it right now but we are extremely happy about it. (On MS Dhoni coming back to CSK as captain) Obvious, yes. It is a very obvious choice but we have not applied our mind beyond that,” quoted Chennai Super Kings team director George John.

On the player pool

Commenting on the fact that the team will get to pick the players from the 2015 IPL squad, the CSK director affirmed that they are not losing their head over it and are quite content with the rule. “We are happy with this. Thirteen players are there (from the 2015 squad), so we are fine with it,” he quoted. The CSK franchise will not be able to retain only one big name from their 2015 squad, and that is Mohit Sharma.

It will be interesting who the other players would be that the CSK franchise retains before the auctions. Apart from the retentions, the teams will also have the option to use the Right to Match cards.
