Chris Gayle hadn’t ruled out Test cricket despite the stand-off between the Windies players and Cricket West Indies with the stand-off between the players and cricket board now ending, the swashbuckling batsman has hinted at a possible return to the longest format of the game.

Gayle has not represented Windies in a Test since 2014 and had also disappeared from the shorter format for the most part of the year that followed after their victory at the World Twenty20 last year. However, he joined the powerhouse T20 team once again during India’s tour to the Carribean. Currently, he is in England playing the limited-overs leg of the tour. He will make his first One-Day International appearance since March 2015 against England.

The Jamaican goes into the opening game at Old Trafford in good form having made 40 from 21 deliveries in their 21-run win over Eoin Morgan’s side at Durham on Saturday, having become the first man to hit 100 T20I sixes in the process, and Gayle’s desire for more landmark moments could prompt a Test return.

Test cricket return incoming?

The power-hitter added another feather in his cap as he became the first batsman to complete a century of sixes in Twenty20 Internationals. Gayle prefers to deal in boundaries and sixes even at the age of 37, be it for West Indies or any franchise he plays for. As he reached a century of maximums and made it a special record, he hinted his return to the longest format.

“Sometimes [I miss Tests],” he told Sky Sports. “I am looking forward to that as well. Maybe next year I’ll try to take that challenge up. I’ll see what happens. I’m looking forward to the 50-over [matches] because it’s been two years since I played a 50-over game. That’s more important, I’m looking forward to that,” he concluded.
