Swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle recently posted a picture on his Instagram handle indicating that he wants the India batsman Rohit Sharma to score a triple ton in Tests. Gayle posted a picture with Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag and needless to say, it was an overdose of runs in the picture.
All the three batsmen have scored double centuries in the ODI format. The big Jamaican was pretty much aware of the fact and mentioned it was the double century club in ODI. He then followed it up by saying a triple ton in Tests from Rohit Sharma will make it a triple century club too. Both Chris Gayle and Virender Sehwag have triple centuries to their names in Tests, while Rohit Sharma is yet to achieve the coveted milestone.
Along with the picture, Chris Gayle added the caption, “The double century club in ODI. @rohitsharma45 just need a triple in test and it would be the Triple Century Club . Great to be among the legend Virender Sehwag. #Champions.”

While Virender Sehwag has the distinction of scoring 2 triple centuries in Tests, 309 against Pakistan at Multan and 319 against South Africa at Chennai, Chris Gayle struck his only triple ton – 333 – against Sri Lanka at Galle. Rohit Sharma will definitely be keen on joining the elite club and the words of Gayle would come alive if that happens. It will indeed be a Triple Century Club.
When it comes to ODIs, Virender Sehwag broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest individual score in ODIs, when he hit 219 against West Indies in 2011 and became the 2nd batsman ever to score an ODI double. The dazzling opener Rohit Sharma followed him soon and scored his maiden ODI double ton – 209 against Australia in 2013.
A year later, Sharma went a notch ahead and scored his second ODI double ton – 264 against Sri Lanka and became the only batsman in the history of the game to score 2 double hundreds. Chris Gayle smacked his only double ton against Zimbabwe during the ICC World Cup 2015.
