Chris Lewis, a former England all-rounder, has claimed that an Indian had approached him to fix matches whiles he was playing. Around 20 years ago, Lewis had created a controversy by accusing his teammates of fixing but later he was caught smuggling drugs into England due to which he spent more than 6 years in jail.

The cricketer has come up with a book in which he has revisited his life and career which was filled with controversy. He has aptly named his book as Crazy, My Road to Redemption. In an interview to Mirror, he shared some of the unfortunate incidents of his life. Lewis also felt that his career could have been a lot better but was happy to have played the game against the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards and Brian Lara.

I never named any player publicly

The 49-year-old said that he never accused any of his team mates of fixing and the news was conveyed to the media in a wrong way. “It is something about nothing. It is about a conversation somebody had with me. So I personally never had any information. This is all about reporting to the board what somebody else had said. I was never in a place to accuse anybody but that is how it came out in the media. But the truth is I did not accuse anybody of match-fixing because all I knew was what I was told in a conversation with this person,” Lewis said.

He also mentioned that he never announced any player’s name in public regarding fixing but he had done it in the report submitted to the board and the investigations have been carried out after that. “I never named any player publicly. I gave my report (he named them in the report) to the board. There is an Indian link, yes. People who spoke to me were Indians. We are now 20 years into that episode. The authorities have done the investigation and have taken action whatever was needed. I am certainly not in a place where I want to open things unless it on an official basis,” said the former England cricketer who played 32 Test matches in his career.

There are also reports of a movie being made on the life of Chris Lewis and he himself did not deny the news but also said that nothing concrete has emerged even after plenty of discussions.
