Former Nottinghamshire skipper and wicketkeeper Chris Read, who retired from cricket earlier in September, is set to make a return to the club in 2018 as a part-time coach. Read, 39, retired at the end of last season after helping Notts win the One-Day Cup and promotion from County Championship Division Two.
He amassed a club record 983 first-class dismissals and scored 15,103 runs in 20 seasons at Trent Bridge. The former England player sat out of the Outlaws’ T20 Blast win and instead had an off-the-field role. He is already a Level 4 coach, having completed that qualification while he was still playing, and fitted in brilliantly with the rest of the coaching team during his stint as a part-timer last year last year.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman call hung up his boots from the professional game at the end of last season to take up a position at Uppingham School but has now agreed on a deal to come back. During the school holidays, Read will aid Notts head coach Peter Moores and his coaching unit on a part-time basis. Peter Moores looks upbeat with the decision and is relishing the opportunity of tapping into the knowledge of a man who made 15,103 runs in a career that spanned 20 years in Nottingham, spending 10 of those as club captain.
Notts head coach Peter Moores said: “To be able to tap into Chris’ knowledge as a captain and player, as well as his specialist skills which he can use to can support our wicketkeepers, makes him the perfect fit for our coaching team.”
