Coach Darren Lehmann will not travel to India for the limited overs series

Assistant coach David Saker will be in charge for the series against India.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann will not travel with his boys to India, and therefore his assistant David Saker will be in charge during their limited overs tour to India. Lehmann is also a part of the selection panel, and he will be taking a break after a surprisingly exhausting tour of Bangladesh.

The visitors lost to Mushfiqur Rahim’s men in the 1st Test by 20 runs but managed to make a comeback just in time to level the series 1-1. The Australian team hasn’t really done well this season away, after they were beaten by India 2-1 before the humiliating loss at Dhaka.

Lehmann will be seen straight into the Ashes against England in November. He recently said that he has got the idea of the playing XI roughly on his mind, after the end of the 2-Test series against Bangladesh. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell failed to make use of the good starts and lost his wicket cheaply on each occasion, with the only highlight being ending the series with a six. Lehmann will have to take a call with the big series coming up.

“With number six in Australia, it’s totally different to Asia,” Lehmann told reporters before Australia left Bangladesh.

“We’ll certainly be looking at that position, and anyone can jump out of the pack in the three Shield games and what we think the best make-up is for that first test. Glenn is there at the moment, like everyone else, he’ll have to perform.”

On the other hand, Usman Khawaja just scored two runs in the 1st Test match, which Australia went on to lose. Later, he was dropped for the 2nd Test. But the coach holds Khawaja in the highest regard, and he feels that the left-handed batsman will come good at home. It will be interesting to see if the no.3 batsman makes it to the squad and ends the year, which has been nothing sort of frustrating, on a high
