Although the probability of losing and winning a toss is ½, the equation seems different as far as Virat Kohli’s luck is concerned. The Indian skipper lost his third toss on the trot in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. This time the opposition was Afghanistan. Notably, toss has played a vital role in the ongoing competition. As dew comes in later in the game, winning the toss and opting to bowl has been a tradition in this year’s global event.

The Indian team is also known to do well while batting second. However, they haven’t got that chance in this competition so far all thanks to Kohli’s luck. As a result, India were again put into bat first and it would be interesting to see how their batters would embrace the challenge. Notably, the track at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi is known to favour the bowlers early in the match.

India’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals on knife’s edge

Hence, Indian batters have a job in hand. It has to be noted that India must win this game by a significant margin to keep their outside chances of qualifying for the semi-final alive. Having lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two fixtures, the Men in Blue aren’t likely to get through the knock-out stage.

As far as the qualification scenario is concerned, India need to win all their remaining games handsomely and hope that other match results fall in their favour. However, if they lose one more game, they will officially get knocked out of the competition. Notably, India had lost the toss in their last two games too as were asked to bat first. Hence, it would be interesting to see how they’ll do against the Mohammad Nabi-led side.

Meanwhile, Kohli admitted that their qualification is pretty tricky. However, the 32-year-old also asserted that his side will give its best to keep the outside chances alive. “There’s no denying the fact that the situation is a tricky one. Having said that there’s still a chance. We as a team will look at the chance and try to play positive cricket,” Kohli said during the toss.

“We know we haven’t played up to potential whatever the reasons might be – need to brush that aside. Would have bowled first. But it’s not a bad thing against a side like Afghanistan who look to put up runs on the board,” he added.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Virat Kohli losing yet another toss:
