New Zealand cricketer Colin Munro revealed how he had almost given up on cricket at the age of 24. He talked about his mindset during the time he was struggling, early in his career and how he turned the tables. He admitted how things panned out for him luckily and he never had second thoughts later on.

He was on the brink of giving up his cricketing career but he took his friend’s suggestion to move back to Auckland and do some odd jobs and play a season alongside. Ultimately he was lucky enough to find a place in the playing XI when Colin de Grandhomme was picked for the national side. There, he found an opportunity to bat at no.7 and went on to score some 130 odd runs.

“I have never looked back ever since then,” remarked Munro while talking to ESPNcricinfo. He is in India as a part of the ‘A’ team’s tour has mostly batted down the order at no.5 or 6. However since New Zealand coach Mike Hesson revealed that Tom Latham is expected to bat at the middle order, Colin Munro may well open the innings with Martin Guptill as the limited overs series against India commences.

Munro’s career

Earlier this year in a T20 International against Bangladesh, Munro smashed a phenomenal 101 runs from just 54 balls with 7 boundaries and 7 sixes. Known for his exploits with the bat, Munro may be a potential threat with the bat for the Indian bowlers. Also, having had the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League, he may be wary of the Indian conditions.

The India v New Zealand five-match ODI series is expected to kickoff from 22nd October at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. They will also battle it out in three T20Is and the tour concludes on November 7 in Thiruvananthapuram.
