The Indian Premier League (IPL) is not just an ordinary cricket tournament. It is a tech-savvy tournament with the likes of Spider-cam, LED stumps and Decision Review System already implemented. Such technologies enhance the viewership experience of the fans and ensure that fans who cannot visit the stadium to watch the match get a first-hand experience of the stadium.

The cash-rich tournament has taken the game to the next level by introducing Collaborative Robots to cheer for the home team on April 13 when Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Kings XI Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Popularly known as Cobots, these collaborative robots are manufactured by Universal robots and programmed by a 27-year-old Bangalore based firm MAC Machine Tools. The technology got a positive response from the spectators at the stadium.

Exciting technology

“Since its inception in the year 2008, IPL has gotten bigger, better and exciting. We are excited to be a part of such a big cricketing event this year by introducing our robotic solutions in the tournament. Our cheer-leading and bar-tending application in the IPL is an example which showcases the power of innovation and creativity,” J Nagarajan, managing director of MAC Machine Tools and Automation was quoted as saying by orissapost.com.

Bengaluru is known for technological advancements. By introducing robots, it has once again established its name as the premier IT hub of India. “It’s a path-breaking opportunity for us to explore an unconventional field. The new generations of lightweight robotic arms are now moving to sectors beyond the automotive and it’s a terrific experience to see them showing up some pretty unusual applications,” added Universal Robots’ General Manager Pradeep David.

These technologies are good for the advancement of the game. It leads to increase in viewership as more and more people like to witness the use of latest technologies in the field of sport. It adds to the glamour of the sport and the already electrifying game.
