During New Zealand’s tour of South Africa earlier this year, the commentator’s panel, including Shaun Pollock, Simon Doull, Kepler Wessels, and Mpumelelo Mbangwa decided to select a current World Test XI, and they definitely had a tough job in their hands. After a long discussion, they were able to agree on a side.
The side, no doubts, was a great one with fantastic names in it. The commentators decided upon having the dynamic duo of Kane Williamson and David Warner as their openers. The dynamic duo, a perfect combination of calm demeanour and aggression, are capable of playing on any kind of surface.
South African run machine Hashim Amla was entrusted with the most responsible job in the order – batting at No.3. Joe Root, the best young cricketer at the moment takes up the No.4 place in the team. Modern day batting maverick AB de Villiers and Australia skipper Steven Smith form the core of the batting order. While, Ben Stokes and Ravichandran Ashwin, both match winners for their respective teams, will add balance between bat and ball.
The main bowling attack consists of three of the world’s best fast bowlers – Dale Steyn, James Anderson and Mitchell Starc. With the commentators didn’t seem to choose another spinner in the team apart from, Ashwin, the off-spinner, the rising Pakistan leg spinning sensation Yasir Shah had to settle down as the 12th man of the team.
Here is their World Test XI:
Kane Williamson, David Warner, Hashim Amla, Joe Root, AB de Villiers, Steven Smith, Ben Stokes, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn, James Anderson, Yasir Shah (12th man)
