A comparison between the weekend collections of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Azhar

2016 has been a great year for cricket fans. By the start of 2016, it was finalized that there were biopics on MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin scheduled to be released this year. Both the movies created a lot of buzz and the excitement surrounding it was very high.

The subject of the movie were two completely different personalities with a completely contrasting story. Azhar depicted the life of tainted Mohammad Azharuddin while MS Dhoni: The Untold Story took the fans through the journey of a man who touched great heights of success coming from a modest background.

Both the movies were well-received on the box office but if collections are looked upon, then MS Dhoni’s biopic beats Azhar by a huge margin. Azhar released in the month of May while MS Dhoni: The Untold Story released past weekend and is currently having a sensational run at the cinemas.

Azhar minted Rs. 6.30 crore on the first day. On the second day, it collected Rs. 7 and continued its upward trend in its collection and saw positive growth over Saturday collecting Rs. 7.50 crore on Sunday taking the total weekend collection to Rs. 20.80 crore on its opening weekend.

According to the latest numbers, MS Dhoni’s biopic has garnered 66 crores in the first three of its release and is expected to go strong in the coming week as well. MS Dhoni’s biopic, on the other hand, raked in 21.30 crores in the opening itself. On Saturday, it garnered 20.60 crores and did a business of 24.10 crores on Sunday to complete the bumper weekend.

Both movies have received great response from the viewers. The actors also were showered with high praise. Emraan Hashmi was lauded for depicting the controversial life of the Azharuddin while Sushant Singh Rajput, the lead in MS Dhoni, also received good reviews from the critics.
