One of the pillars of success for Bangladesh Cricket in recent years, their present captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who desires to play till the ICC World Cup of 2019, cited out that his fitness in the only issue which concerns him. Mortaza has had a terrible history with injuries. The pacer has undergone as many as seven leg surgeries already.

Since making his debut back in 2001 against Zimbabwe, the spirited Bangladesh developed into a legend for his country, witnessing all the highs and lows of its cricketing history. From defeating the mighty Australians in a tri-series in England to knocking out New Zealand from the recently concluded Champions Trophy at the very same ground in Cardiff, Mashrafe Mortaza has seen it all.

Mortaza, lately, retired from T20 cricket to focus on ODIs and thus remain available for the next edition of World Cup. The stalwart has picked up 232 wickets for his country in 179 matches at an economy of 4.7 with the best of 6/26. Apart from taking all those wickets, he has also scored 1500 odd runs batting way down the order, at a healthy strike rate of about 90.

Performing in WC2019 of utmost importance for Mortaza

“Fitness is the main concern for me for the upcoming World Cup and performing well is important too. If I can perform well with keeping myself fit, then there is no reason to avoid the 2019 World Cup. I want to play until that time.” commented Mashrafe Mortaza according to Bdcrictime.

Mashrafe is presently charted at number 14 in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Rankings. The 33-year old has been a key performer for the side in recent times. He has taken 58 wickets in 40 matches in last 3 years, most by any Bangladeshi bowler. Provided he keeps himself fit, there is no reason why we should not see him donning the red and greens for Bangladesh in England and Wales in 2019.
