Given the aggressive character that he is, Virat Kohli has managed to get involved in a feud every time he toured Australia. On this occasion, his quarrel is with the Australian skipper Tim Paine. These two haven’t had the best of times in the second Test. They took a jibe at each other on quite a few occasions and were also involved in an ugly possible collision.
It is believed that Virat Kohli told his counterpart that he is the best player in the world. He went a step further and said that Paine was just a stand-in skipper. Later on, Paine asked Murali Vijay, “I know he is your captain. But, you can’t seriously like him as a bloke”.
Ice and fire during the handshakes
India lost the 2nd Test by 146 runs on the fifth and final day. Australia staged a brilliant come back to level the series at Perth. Kohli’s valiant 123 went in vain and was outshined by Nathan Lyon’s 8-wicket haul in the match. In the second innings, India was bowled out for only 140 runs as Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari failed to capitalise on the situation.
After the match, the players were all involved in the customary handshakes. However, it all didn’t look great when Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Australian skipper Tim Paine came face-to-face. It was indeed an awkward moment fo them.
While Paine was sporting a casual smile, the Indian skipper was in no mood of entertainment. He had a death stare on his face as he shook hands and looked dejected with the loss. The wicket-keeper batsman patted Kohli on the back before these two moved forward.
‘It was frosty between Tim Paine and Virat Kohli at the end!,’ wrote Fox Cricket on Twitter and also shared a short video of the incident.
