The ongoing County Championship 2022 division two game between Leicestershire and Sussex was interrupted by a swarm of bees and the players had to go down to the ground to keep themselves safe. This is certainly one of the rare incidents in the game when the play had to be halted due to bees as more often than not, the game is paused due to rain interruptions or bad light.

There have been several incidents in the past where the play had to be halted due to the dogs or cats but the degree of danger is quite low there as compared to the case of bees. Meanwhile, Leicestershire tweeted sarcastically about the incident stating the bees had interrupted instead of rain and added about Ollie Robinson bowling spin instead of fast bowling.

Here’s the tweet from the Leicestershire Twitter handle

“R̶a̶i̶n̶…̶B̶a̶d̶ ̶L̶i̶g̶h̶t̶…̶ 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐒 stop play???  Not something I thought I’d be tweeting today. A swarm of bees force the players and umpires to hit the deck at Grace Road. Ollie Robinson’s bowling spin too. Just an average Sunday,” captioned the Twitter handle of Leicestershire CCC.

Speaking of the game, Leicestershire opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored 210 in the first innings in 83.3 overs. Lewis Hill top-scored with a 35 run-knock while two of the other batters got starts while none stitch big innings.

Aaron Beard and Henry Crocombe picked up three-wicket hauls for Sussex. In reply, the Sussex side scored a mammoth 450 in the second innings on the back of half-centuries from Tom Haines and Oliver Carter and a 138 run-knock from Tom Clark as well.

In the second innings, Leicestershire has been closed down the deficit with half-centuries from Hasan Azad, Rishi Patel and Harry Swindells while Archie Lenham has picked up four wickets for the Sussex side.
