CPL 2018: Glenn Phillips pulls off a ridiculous looking scoop against Rayad Emrit

The sixth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has so far been an event full of entertainment and runs, as most of the games have been high-scoring encounters. With the modern-day evolution and transition of the game, the batters have started pulling off some innovative shots especially in the shortest version of the game. Jamaica Tallawahs’ wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips recently played an audacious looking shot in the CPL encounter against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Philips takes down Emrit with a dauntless scoop for a boundary

In the 11th match of CPL 2018 between Jamaica and Guyana, Phillips’ side, the Tallawahs had a daunting task ahead of them as the opposition asked them to chase a total of 210 runs to win their fourth game in a row in the competition. The Kiwi wicketkeeper-batsman decided to play with an out and out attacking approach to get the team off to a flying start.

Jamaica were dented early on in their chase as opener Kennar Lewis was dismissed in the very first over and then they lost Ross Taylor on the score of 82 during the eighth over. Whereas at the same time, Philips was holding the innings together from the other end.

While batting on 36 runs from 21 balls, Philips smashed the Guyana pacer Rayad Emrit played a courageous scoop shot. He manoeuvred around the crease to get into a position for the scoop, the bowler saw him moving and also tried to make it tougher for him. In the end, Philips did manage to scoop the ball over the head of the Guyana wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi and it went all the way for a four.

However, Phillips failed to guide his team towards the target and was dismissed for a quick-fire cameo of 43 runs off 29 balls by leg-spinner Imran Tahir. After losing quick wickets in the middle overs, the Tallawahs never recovered and thus lost the game by a hefty margin of 71 runs.
