The 2nd game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 will be played between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Zouks at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
The match starts at 6:00 PM local time (10:00 PM GMT) (3:30 AM IST – 6th September)
This series will be live on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD in India. Live streaming is available on Hotstar.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors enter into the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with the hopes of winning the title just like any other team. In the six editions of the tournament before this, the Amazon Warriors have made it to the finals on four instances; the most by any team. However, they ended up on the losing side every time including the previous edition against the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Their 2019 campaign begins against the St Lucia Zouks; the team with the worst record in franchise T20 cricket. The St Lucia franchise were known as St Lucia Zouks for first three editions before changing to St Lucia Stars for the next three seasons. Ahead of 2019, their old name was restored following the axe of the team owners. They will be led by the local boy and the former Windies captain, Daren Sammy.
A long night could be possible at the Providence Stadium on Thursday night as the weather forecast suggests showers towards the end of the game. The skies are expected to be partly cloudy through the day but not much of rain is expected until 9 PM local time.
The Providence Stadium produced decent pitches during the CPL 2018 where 160+ chases were seen quite often. The last month’s T20I between India and the hosts at this venue gave the feeling of a sticky wicket due to the rain before the match. The team winning the toss will definitely elect to field first.
Average first innings score: 159 (CPL matches in 2018)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 5, Lost – 2
Colin de Grandhomme and Qais Ahmad are part of International tours.

Rahkeem Cornwall, fresh of making his Test debut, will look for a big season in the CPL. He has the ability to hit big shots alongside some tight bowling. Cornwall could be pushed up the order at the times like in the previous edition. His teammate Hardus Viljoen is returning from a successful stint in the T20 Blast with the Kent. Chris Green could come out as surprise package if given a chance to fill the gaps in Guyana’s batting.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Rahkeem Cornwall, Thisara Perera, Shoaib Malik
Vice-Captain – Shadab Khan, Andre Fletcher, Najibullah Zadran, Chris Green, Hardus Viljoen
Given the form, Nicholas Pooran was in the T20 format in the last one and a half year, he should be picked as captain if not as vice-captain in the fantasy team.
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Nicholas Pooran (C)
Batters – Shimron Hetmyer, Najibullah Zadran, John Campbell
All-Rounders – Rahkeem Cornwall (VC), Thisara Perera, Shadab Khan
Bowlers – Chris Green, Imran Tahir, Fawad Ahmed, Hardus Viljoen
Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:

All-Rounders – Thisara Perera (VC), Rahkeem Cornwall, Shoaib Malik
Bowlers – Chris Green, Krishmar Santokie, Hardus Viljoen
One of the challenges that the fantasy teams for this game face is unsettled batting line-ups. Both the teams don’t have a confirmed batting order and expected to make quite a lot of changes going into the tournament.
The St Lucia Zouks’ bowling attack could fetch a positive result from this match.
