The 12th match of CPL 2020 is scheduled between Jamaica Tallawahs and Guyana Amazon Warriors on 26th August at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The current one being a reverse fixture of the CPL 2020, the Tallawahs would want to avenge a disparaging defeat that the Warriors handed them in Trinidad.

They did an exceptional job with the ball to restrict their opponents to an under-par score of 118, though only to be jolted by the Warriors’ bowling attack. Ever since the Tallawahs registered their first victory against St Lucia Zouks in their first encounter of the tournament, their fortunes seem to have changed. Having lost their last two league matches, they are placed fourth on the points tally with 2 points.

Opener Chadwick Walton has been a sheer disappointment thus far and the issues at No. 3 do not seem to be coming to an end for them either. To expect a team to win with a struggling opener and No. 3 is nothing but wishful thinking. Despite boasting the likes of Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite in the all-rounder slot, they have not been able to get the fireworks going.

Although Dre Russ did strike with bat and ball in the last game before waning in the last over needing 19 to cross the line. 9 out of 10 days, he would have done that, but it turned out to be the remaining one day.

Warriors have had their own set of issues. Their struggling top-order problem looked sorted after Brandon King and Chandrapaul added 56 runs briskly against Tallawahs, however, they failed again to make that look a fluke. Nicholas Pooran played with responsibility in a chase of 144 against St Lucia Zouks in the last game, however, the lack of support around him made his efforts go in drain. Shimron Hetmyer and Ross Taylor looked completely off and Taylor almost looked crawling before perishing for 1 after facing 12 balls.

Tallawahs would be desperate to clinch this one after losing two in a row whereas the Warriors, having defeated them once already, would want to complete the double.

Playing combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj’s run at the top has not been convincing and they have failed to provide starts apart from the one instance against Tallawahs. Shimron Hetmyer is leading the list of top run-scorers despite two failed outings and will surely hold the bat at No. 3.

Ross Taylor struggled horribly in the last game but he has been under constant pressure due to the lack of support around him. Nicholas Pooran’s 66 should give some heart to the Warriors after a streak of low scores from his bat. Sherfane Rutherford has lacked consistency right since the start and needs to find his form to justify his selection from here.

Despite playing as a designated all-rounder, skipper Chris Green has not made even a single notable contribution with the bat. However, he has shown his range with the ball. Keemo Paul has gotten wickets under the belt but has been expensive on the odd occasion. Ashmead Nedd has impressed twice in a row and should be retained. Imran Tahir too leaked runs in the first match but has taken wickets and bowled tight in the matches that have followed.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Naveen-ul-Haq /Odean Smith, Ashmead Nedd, Imran Tahir.

Bench: Naveen-ul-Haq/Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Kevin Sinclair, Jessy Singh, Romario Shepherd, Kissoodath Magram.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Opener Chadwick Walton’s woes seem not coming to an end and his scores of 2, 0, 0, are lucid evidence of that. Glen Philips, his partner, missed out in the last match though his performance has been decent otherwise.

The No. 3 spot has been a persistent concern for the team as neither Nkrumah Bonner nor Nicholas Kirton has been able to make a mark. Skipper Rovman Powell and Asif Ali have played consistent cricket and have ensured to give in small but important efforts. The expectations of pyrotechnics from Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite in tandem are yet to be fulfilled, however, Russell did his duty with both bat and ball in the last game. Brathwaite’s bat has not been getting him runs though the ball has helped him find his spot.

The young Oshane Thomas was slapped for 24 runs in the only over he bowled last game and Veerasammy Permaul could come in his place. Fidel Edwards has bowled with control and has kept things tight. Spinners Sandeep Lamichhane and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have performed heavily and are the most obvious entrants.

Predicted XI- Chadwick Walton, Glenn Phillips (WK), Nkrumah Bonner/Nicholas Kirton, Rovman Powell (C) Asif Ali, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Veerasammy Permaul/Oshane Thomas, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fidel Edwards.

Bench: Ramaal Lewis, Nkrumah Bonner/Nicholas Kirton, Jermaine Blackwood, Preston McSween, Ryan Persaud, Veerasammy Permaul.
