The Guyana Amazon Warriors will face the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 16th match of CPL 2020 on 28th August (India) at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The Trinbago Knight Riders have been invincible hitherto and their winning run has been like a vehicle with no breaks. To state the obvious, they are placed right on top with 8 points and a certain qualification in the semi-final. Their fourth consecutive victory came against the St Lucia Zouks yesterday in a rain-curtailed encounter as they chased down a revised target of 72 runs in 8 overs with 6 balls to spare.

DJ Bravo was outstanding with the ball as he bagged two wickets giving just 7 runs and also completed the massive landmark of 500 wickets in T20 cricket. The 48-year-old ‘boy’ Pravin Tamb got a wicket as did Ali Khan and Khary Pierre. Restricting the Zouks to 111, the Riders hunted them down courtesy Colin Munro and Darren Bravo’s quick-fire cameos.

Guyana Amazon Warriors, on the other hand, were crushed by Jamaica Tallawahs in their last encounter as they looked completely downtrodden. The Warriors were wrapped up for a paltry 108 at the loss of 9 wickets with Ross Taylor, 23 off 22 being the leading scorer. The entire order collapsed and looked beaten against the Tallahwah’s bowling attack. Bowlers Imran Tahir, Ashmead Nedd, Keemo Paul bagged a wicket apiece whereas Naveen-ul-Haq got two, however, the cushion given by batsman was never going to be enough.

Tridents look intimidating and stopping them will be quite a task. The 4th-placed Warriors still have some hopes but a loss tonight will make their journey really difficult from here.

Pitch and playing conditions

This being the second game of the day on the same surface, the pitch will certainly be on the slower side. The spinners have been having a party in the Caribbean thus far and it won’t stop anytime soon. The new ball might move a bit but it’s the spinners the batsmen need to be wary of. However, there will be some runs for the taking for the batters too.

Playing combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Opener Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj have not been able to justify their spot in the eleven and the latter was dropped to bring Anthony Bramble in his spot. However, the poor show at the top continued nevertheless as Bramble failed to make it count. Shimron Hetmyer got off to flying start but has failed to perform thrice in a row.

Ross Taylor has played a few decent hands though he has not been up to the mark. Nicholas Pooran played a brilliant knock against the Zouks but he did not build upon that and threw his wicket again in the last game. Sherfane Rutherford has been utterly disappointing and needs to perform urgently before he loses his spot.

Keemo Paul has been quite consistent with the ball and has taken wickets apart from bowling frugally. Skipper Chris Green has not led by example and has been on and off. Ashmead Nedd and Naveen-ul-Haq have been in great form and will look to continue. And needless to say, Imran Tahir is an obvious pick.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Anthony Bramble (WK), Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir, Ashmead Nedd

Bench: Romario Shepherd, Jasdeep Singh, Kevin Sinclair, Kissoondath Magram, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Odean Smith

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Riders have the least number of issues to tackle, however, Lendl Simmons’s disappointing form has been a constant. Sunil Narine, who did not play the last game, should be seen in action this time.

Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Tim Seifert will form the middle-order and they all have been in good form of late. Seifert has not got too many chances but he played just fine for his 15 runs in the last game. Munro, Bravo, and Pollard scored runs in the match against Tridents, however, none of them had to do a lot in the short chase of 72 in the last game.

Dwayne Bravo was phenomenal with the ball as he bagged 2 for just 7 runs. Jayden Seales, Ali Khan, and Fawad Ahmed have all been contributing by regular wickets and economic bowling. Khary Pierre has also utilized the limited chances well and has done well to bring his economy under check.

Predicted XI- Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard (C), Tim Seifert (WK), Dwayne Bravo, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales, Ali Khan, Fawad Ahmed

Bench: Akeal Hosein, Pravin Tambe, Sikandar Raza, Anderson Phillip, Amir Jangoo, Tion Webster
