The 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League started with great enthusiasm on August 18 (Tuesday). On the first day, we witnessed a thrilling match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors where Knight Riders outshined the Amazon Warriors by 4 wickets.

Day 2 of the T20 league saw two matches, one between Barbados Tridents and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots which the former won by 6 runs. While the other game is being played between the Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Zouks at The Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Both these teams failed to make it to the playoffs last season and really struggled to find the right momentum.

The Rovman Powell-led Tallawahs won the toss and opted to bowl first. So, the Daren Sammy-led Lucia Zouks managed to put up a decent score of 158 runs at the loss of 7 wickets on the board by the end of 20th over owing to the half-century by Roston Chase and small cameos by Andre Fletcher and Najibullah Zadran.

Rovman Powell takes a stunning catch

The Zouks batsmen Najibullah and Roston had built a good partnership of 52 runs and Jamaica needed to break this budding partnership. Sandeep Lamichhane provided that much-needed breakthrough to his team in the starting of the 14th over as the captain Rovman took a stunning catch to dismiss the Afghanistan batsman.

On the ball by Lamichhane, Najibullah tried to hit it for six but couldn’t get the desired timing. Thus, the ball was expected to land somewhere at deep mid-wicket where two fielders were already present. Though a collision happened between Rovman and Permaul, Rovman managed to cling to the ball. Despite losing his balance, Powell grabbed the ball. The excellent catch resulted in the end of a good knock by the Afghan batsman who returned back to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs off 21 balls.

Lauding this great effort by the Tallawahs captain, the official twitter handle of the Caribbean Premier League shared a small clip of the whole incident. They captioned it as, “Eyes on the Prize”

Najibullah is an Afghan batsman who looks promising as a middle-order batsman. Till now he has represented Afghanistan in 60 T20 Internationals scoring 976 runs at an average of 31.5 and strike rate of 140.6.
