Cricket fans must brace themselves as the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 is set to get underway on Wednesday (August 26). A total of 32 matches will be played in the tournament with the final clash scheduled to take place on September 15. The past seasons of CPL have witnessed some fascinating battle over the 22 yards with T20 stars from different parts plying their trade.

Expectations are no less from the upcoming tournament as all sides are studded with prominent names. Like the previous edition, six teams will be participating this season namely Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Royals, Trinbago Knight Riders, St Lucia Kings, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs. Defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders are the most successful team of CPL history, having lifted the title four times.

Apart from them, Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Royals have got their hands on the title twice. Hence, the trophy is still elusive for three teams and it would be interesting to see how the competition unfolds. Notably, the tournament holds even greater significance with the high-voltage T20 World Cup 2021 being less than a couple of months away.

Hence, CPL 2021 is a great platform for several players to showcase their prowess and stake a claim in their national squads for the global event. It has to be noted that fitness of players would be tested this season with many double headers being in the pipeline. Initially, the tournament had a wider window.

However, following discussions between BCCI and the West Indies Cricket Board regarding the second phase of IPL 2021, the CPL 2021 is now set to complete by 15th September. Nevertheless, mavericks from worldwide will feature in the competition. Hence, fans must mark their calendars.
