BAN vs IND ODI Series 2022: India predicted XI against Bangladesh for 3rd ODI

India will be locking horns with Bangladesh in the third and final One Day International at Chattogram on Saturday, December 10. Even though this is a dead rubber for the visitors, they must win this one in order to salvage pride and avoid a humiliating whitewash.

It is the bowling that has let India miserably down in the One Day series. They had the hosts on the mat at 136/9 defending a low total of 186 in the series opener before the last pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman took them over the line with a match-winning 51-run partnership for the final wicket.

In the previous fixture, the Indians had Bangladesh reeling at 69/6 before Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad’s 148-run seventh wicket stand helped them post a match-winning total of 271/7. The Men in Blue agonizingly lost that contest by five runs despite skipper Rohit Sharma’s valiant half-century which was made by batting with an injured thumb.

Meanwhile, India have a headache heading into this clash as Rohit Sharma, pacer Kuldeep Sen and bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar have been ruled out due to injuries. Without further ado, here’s a look at-

India’s Predicted Playing XI for the third ODI

Openers: Ishan Kishan and Shikhar Dhawan

Ishan Kishan who had played in the T20Is of the New Zealand series last month was not included for the subsequent ODI series. The youngster has so far amassed 267 runs from eight innings in the 50-over format and would now be eyeing to perform well in the One Day Internationals from hereon with a focus on the next year’s ODI World Cup at home.

Shikhar Dhawan’s performances in this series have been disappointing as he has only managed to register scores of 7 and 8 in the last two games which have added early pressure on the middle-order. The southpaw must play an impactful knock in the last game in order to be in the selectors’ good books.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (c) and Shreyas Iyer

Virat Kohli has failed to make his bat do the talking in the ongoing One Day series having managed only 14 runs in the last two matches registering scores of 9 and 5. The batting megastar desperately needs to come out all guns blazing in the dead rubber if India are to avoid a whitewash.

KL Rahul, who has gone back to batting in the middle-order, scored a valiant 73 in the first game, but failed to live up to the expectations in the last match and was dismissed for only 14 runs.

Shreyas Iyer on the other hand has been the most consistent performer for India in One Day Internationals this year and in fact, is also the highest-run-getter in this format having amassed 721 runs. He scored a gritty 82 in the second match.

All-Rounders: Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur

Axar Patel might have gone wicketless in the last match, but made up for it brilliantly with the bat in the second innings scoring a run-a-ball 56 that put pressure right back on the Bangladesh bowlers. He was also involved in a crucial 107-run fifth wicket stand along with Shreyas Iyer.

Washington Sundar has only managed 30 runs in the last two games, but has made up for it exceptionally well with the ball in hand by registering five scalps to his name. He took 3/37 in the previous fixture.

Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur took only a solitary wicket and made two runs in the opening game and went wicketless conceding 47 runs from his quota of 10 overs at an economy of 4.7 including a maiden in the last match. Thakur would now be looking to showcase an improved performance.

Bowlers: Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik

Mohammed Siraj did succeed in registering a three-wicket haul in the series opener conceding just 32 runs including a maiden, but he was totally off-colored in the last game as he conceded 73 runs and despite picking up two wickets, the Hyderabad pacer finished as the most expensive bowler of the innings.

In recent turn of events, Kuldeep Yadav has been added in India's revised squad and given his experience, it is quite likely that he would get to feature in the side. In 72 ODIs so far, he has picked 118 wickets at an impressive economy of 5.19.

Umran Malik who was India’s leading wicket-taker in the New Zealand ODIs has carried that momentum into the ongoing Bangladesh ODIs. While he was benched for the first game, the emerging speedster made a huge impact in the last match finishing with figures of 2/58 from his 10 overs at an economy rate of 5.8 including two maidens.
