India's tour of Bangladesh 2025 postponed
India’s white-ball tour to Bangladesh, originally scheduled for August 2025, has now been officially postponed to September 2026. However, this rescheduling can be a major financial hit. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the postponement after discussions with the BCCI, citing scheduling issues and diplomatic considerations.
India series major revenue-making source for BCB
The tour was slated to feature three ODIs and three T20Is across Dhaka and Chattogram. For Bangladesh, hosting India is not just about the game, but also revenue. India’s matches, especially involving stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were set to make their first international appearances after announcing their retirement from Tests in May 2025, were expected to be a huge revenue-making source for the hosts. However, the recent developments have restricted BCB from a massive financial opportunity.
Bangladesh Cricket Board's earnings in FY 2022–23
According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s official financial statement for FY 2022–23, their total income was at BDT 5,075 crore (approximately INR 384 crore), while total expenditures touched BDT 3,558 crore (approximately INR 270 crore). The board made a surplus of BDT 1,516 crore, largely due to ICC distributions (BDT 1,657 crore) and broadcast revenues (BDT 1,247 crore).

BCB vs BCCI earnings comparison
However, despite healthy earnings on paper, BCB is far behind BCCI in financial strength. With a valuation of just around INR 425 crore, the BCB is significantly less resourceful than India’s cricket board, which has a whopping INR 18,760 crore net worth in 2025. For the BCCI, missing a bilateral series is manageable, especially with revenues from the IPL (INR 5,761 crore surplus in 2024-25) and ICC payouts. But for BCB, every big series, especially against India, is essential to stay at a decent position and fund domestic cricket development.
Ticketing price during the India tour of Bangladesh 2022
The last time these two sides faced each other was in 2022, when India toured Bangladesh. That series ticket prices ranged from Taka 200 to 1,500 (INR 160 to INR 1,200), with packed stands at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Notably, games involving India tend to sell out quickly, with gate collections alone contributing heavily. The earnings also came from sponsorships, increased merchandise sales, and an increase in media rights value for the series. Considering the similar amount of ticketing prices, and the interest and crowd-pulling India series does, BCB lost a significant amount of money.

Bangladesh faces severe political unrest in 2024
Last year, Bangladesh went through severe political unrest that affected multiple sectors, including sports. Cricket, being a revenue-generating stream, plays a stabilizing role. Losing out on a series like this at such a time is a financial hit. Moreover, India tours offer smaller boards a direct link to global broadcasting markets. Without it, BCB not only loses income but also vital exposure, which in turn affects long-term commercial partnerships and sponsorship renewals.
