After a hard-fought defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians in the last match, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are all set to take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 21 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Notably, the bowlers will aim to improve in this clash while all eyes will be on Mayank Agarwal, who’s yet to show his class in Indian Premier League 2023.

So, will SRH make any changes to their squad that suffered a defeat in the last match or the team management will back the same team to get the job done against Chennai? With players like Umran Malik, Adil Rashid and Glenn Phillips waiting in the wings, the team would be tempted to incorporate these players as they field their next playing XI against CSK. But, whether or not the management would actually be able to accommodate them, would be interesting to watch out for. Let's dissect the possible playing XI for SRH against CSK-
Here's Sunrisers Hyderabad’s predicted XI against Chennai Super Kings:
Openers: Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal
After scoring a brilliant century against Kolkata Knight Riders, England international Harry Brook struggled to get going in the match against Mumbai Indians. In Chennai, where the pitch will most likely assist the spinners and the slow bowlers, Brook may once again find it difficult to score runs. However, given his talent, one can never bet against Brook. He might have to take things slow initially but once settled, Brook can cause havoc.
Mayank Agarwal, on the other hand, is not in great form either. The opener scored 48 runs off 41 deliveries in the last match but a lot more is expected from him. He is known to score a lot of runs in the cash-rich league and thus the franchise spent INR 8.25 crore in the latest auction to sign the cricketer. However, he has scored only 113 runs in five matches so far, and thus, would be keen to play an impactful innings against CSK.
Middle Order: Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (c), Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen (wk)
Rahul Tripathi hasn’t been in great form in the ongoing tournament. He is known for playing an aggressive brand of cricket but consistency has been a massive problem for the cricketer in the current season. However, he has generally been very good against spinners and can thus prove to be really valuable for SRH in the match against CSK where spinners generally have an upper hand.
Skipper Aiden Markram has scored 109 runs from four matches so far in the competition. He was brilliant against KKR but against Mumbai in the last match, the South Africa international managed to score only 22 runs off 17 deliveries. He has managed to strike the ball well but just like Tripathi, consistency has been a problem for the 28-year-old. That is one area that Markram needs to improve on immediately.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma was thought to open the innings in the ongoing season but that hasn’t been the case. The youngster is struggling to score runs in the middle order and thus, the team management may have to come up with an instant solution. With Abdul Samad available, the team can bring him in but it will be difficult to bench Sharma, as he is known for his attacking brand of cricket.
Heinrich Klaasen hasn’t been able to deliver what was expected from him so far. However, on his day, the South Africa international can change the complexion of the match with his attacking strokeplay and that’s why the team management is heavily backing him at the moment. However, with Glenn Phillips currently waiting for a chance, Klaasen will have to prove himself at the earliest chance to cement his place.
All-rounders: Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen
Washington Sundar is another such player that needs to improve immediately. With the ODI World Cup coming soon, India may require his service but given his form, it will be difficult for the cricketer to make it into the squad. Thus, the all-rounder will have to step up big time in the forthcoming match. He is well accustomed to the conditions in Chennai and thus, it will be interesting to see if he gets his mojo back.
Marco Jansen meanwhile is in terrific form at the moment. The South Africa international has picked up six wickets from three matches so far and can once again prove to be deadly against CSK. He can also contribute massively with the bat but that didn’t happen so far.
Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, T Natarajan
The duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan has worked wonders for Hyderabad so far. The duo has picked up eight wickets so far in the competition and will be looking forward to increasing the tally. The middle-order batters of CSK are not at their best at the moment and thus, they could find difficulty tackling Natarajan, who could trouble them with toe-crushing yorkers.
Mayank Markande, meanwhile, has been one of the best players for SRH in the tournament. The spin wizard has picked up six wickets from three matches so far, at an economy of 6.41. Thus, the CSK batters may find it difficult to play against the 25-year-old, given the surface at MA Chidambaram is expected to assist the spinners.
