In their previous meeting, LSG snatched the game away from RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, courtesy of Nicholas Pooran’s (62 off 19 balls) Player of the match performance. The two sides have crossed swords on three occasions in IPL history.
LSG will be raring to maintain their momentum and add two more points to climb up the points table. On the other hand, RCB will look to avoid a second straight defeat against the home side in the ongoing edition.
Here’s Lucknow Super Giants’ predicted XI against Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Openers: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers
Just when there was speculation surrounding a change in the top order regarding Quinton de Kock joining the XI in place of Mayers, the latter carved out a spectacular knock against Punjab. The Caribbean explosive hitter clobbered 54 off mere 24 balls, with seven fours and four sixes.
On the other hand, skipper KL Rahul was dismissed early when LSG recorded the second-highest score in IPL history (257 runs). Rahul could only manage to get 12 runs off nine balls before he was sent packing. The skipper is under tremendous pressure of being unable to play his natural game and adapting to a slow approach.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ayush Badoni
Prior to the match against PBKS, Ayush Badoni was having a hard time getting the big runs for Lucknow. However, the batter saw a change in his fortunes as he played an instrumental knock against Punjab in the last outing.
The league has witnessed Pooran’s aggressive batting exploits on a number of occasions and his explosive batting was on full show yet again as he slammed seven boundaries and one maximum in his blazing 45 off 19 in the previous game.
Moreover, it was against RCB in the first meeting this season that Pooran scored 62 off mere 19 balls, which included seven maximums and four boundaries at a stunning strike rate of 326.31 to win the game for his team. The southpaw will be gunning to score the big runs once again when he faces Bangalore at home.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda
Marcus Stoinis relished a fabulous outing with the bat against Punjab in the previous match. Coming in the middle order, Stoinis slammed 72 runs off 40 balls, which included six boundaries and five maximums at an impressive strike rate of 180.
It is worth mentioning that Stoinis took a blow to his left index finger in the second over while attemptig a catch and walked off the field. While there is no update on any injury, the star all-rounder is likely to feature in the XI for the RCB match.
Against PBKS, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda remained unbeaten in the first innings as they scored five and 11 runs, respectively.
Though Krunal has shown glimpses of what he is capable of down the order and with the ball, Hooda has failed to create any sort of impact. In any case, the all-rounder pair will look for an improved outing when the side will be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Bowlers: Naveen-ul-Haq, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Yash Thakur
After posting a mammoth first innings total in the previous match, LSG decided to use as many as nine options in their bowling unit during the chase. However, Naveen-ul-Haq and Ravi Bishnoi were the only two bowlers to complete their four overs.
Avesh Khan was given just two overs against the Kings and leaked runs at a massive rate of 14.00 without any breakthroughs. However, prior to the match against Punjab, Avesh returned economical figures of 6.25 in his four overs against Rajasthan and will aim to get back to his fine form in the forthcoming fixture.
In his 3.5 overs against the Kings, Yash Thakur proved to be slightly expensive with the ball as he gave 37 runs at an economy of 9.65. However, he made up for the runs as he returned a four-wicket haul to dent the middle-order in the chase. While there is still lots to improve for the bowling unit, LSG will look to have an improved outing with the ball against RCB at home.
