IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings strongest predicted playing XI against Mumbai Indians

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede stadium in match 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). A win is a must for both teams as they occupy third and seventh spots, respectively. Victory in this game for the Mumbai Indians would see them level on points with the Chennai Super Kings with six games played.

The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings are coming into this epic clash after a convincing game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Their bowling performed admirably and their batting completed the job without much difficulty. They would be hoping for a similar kind of performance in their upcoming game against MI. Hence, ahead of Chennai Super Kings versus Mumbai Indians clash, let’s take a look at how the away side would be lining up tomorrow at the Wankhede stadium.

Here's the probable playing XI for CSK against MI in the IPL 2024 clash:

Openers- Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad

The newly-appointed captain of the Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad had one of his best games in terms of batting as well as a captain. His valuable fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders got them over the line in the previous game. He would be looking to continue this stellar form in what is about to be his biggest test as a skipper.

Rachin Ravindra had a stunning start to life with the Chennai Super Kings, as his aggressive starts were crucial in giving momentum to the side. Over the past three games, the left-handed opener has not looked in great touch. He has been trying to slog every ball which is causing his demise more often than not. The southpaw might have to rethink the ball he needs to be aggressive on and respect the good deliveries from time to time.

Middle Order- Ajinkya Rahane, Sameer Rizvi, MS Dhoni

Ajinkya Rahane has continued his blistering form from last season and has been using the aggressive approach once again. He is proving to be the X-factor for the side and can be the main source of runs for the franchise during the middle-overs. The right-handed batter will be crucial in the upcoming game as he hails from Mumbai and knows the Wankhede pitch better than anyone.

There was a lot of hype around Sameer Rizvi at the start of the Indian Premier League 2024. However, opportunities have been few and far between as he has only been able to score 14 runs in the two innings he has played till now. If he gets a good time at the crease, he can surely be an X-factor as well for the franchise.

Meanwhile speaking of the legendary former CSK captain MS Dhoni, the former world champion has continued his stellar batting form in the ongoing IPL 2024 as well. Known for his blitzkrieg and finishing games in the lower middle order for his franchise, the veteran has shown good knocking form but has not had much chance in the tournament so far. But his impact cannot be ruled out and will count when it matters the most. Hence, Chennai will hope to see him continue his sublime touch in the tournament ahead.

All-rounders- Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur

The purchase of Daryl Mitchell is surely paying dividends as he has been contributing well to Chennai Super Kings. He has accumulated 118 runs in his five matches in the tournament this season. The right-handed batter is known to play second-fiddle most of the time but once he is in the groove, he can smash sixes for fun. The all-rounder can also contribute with the ball with his much more effective medium-pace bowling

Ravindra Jadeja has been in great form and his spell against the Kolkata Knight Riders is surely a testament of his abilities. He has been contributing with the bat as well for the franchise and his fielding as usual has been top-notch. The only thing lacking in his game is aggressive intent which he can improve upon in the upcoming game against Mumbai Indians.

The bowling all-rounder played his first game of the Indian Premier League 2024 against one of his former franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders. Shardul Thakur used the short ball ploy and slower balls to his advantage and did not allow the batter any room to hit the big sixes. He can be crucial in the game against the Mumbai Indians as he is known for his great displays at the Wankhede stadium.

Bowlers- Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman, Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana was slotted back into the playing XI for the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. He was great with the ball as he conceded just 28 runs and also got a wicket to his name for his amazing efforts. The spinner might be used in the powerplay against the Mumbai Indians and scalped the wickets of their openers early on.

Mustafiizur Rahman would be up against one of his former franchises in the form of Mumbai Indians. He will be looking to use his cutters and short-ball rule to his advantage in the forthcoming game. The pacer is also in the running for the purple cap and might want to scalp a few more wickets to earn the accolade by the end of the game.

The Indian pacer has become one of the first names on the team sheet for the Chennai Super Kings. He is also in the running for the purple cap just like Mustafizur Rahman and his display in the previous match has pushed him up in the leaderboard of the top wicket-takers for the side. The bowler would be hoping for early wickets for the franchise in the upcoming encounter at the Wankhede stadium.
