Delhi Capitals (DC) are still alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, but they are on the brink of elimination after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 47 runs. The 2020 finalists are currently sixth in the points table with 12 points. They have one more match left in the league stage but can only get a maximum of 14 points.
There is a possibility that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), RCB and their upcoming opponent Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all may end up with 14 points. But for Delhi, the villain is their Net Run Rate (NRR), which now stands at -0.482. A lot has to happen for DC to make the playoffs, and logically it's not going to happen.
However, with their regular skipper Rishabh Pant back in the team after a one-match ban, Delhi are going to bring out their best in the final league game against LSG on Tuesday, May 14. Notably, this will also mark their last home game of the 2024 season and they will be looking to end it on a positive note.

Here is the strongest predicted playing XI of DC for the 64th match of IPL 2024 against LSG:
Openers: David Warner, Jake Fraser-McGurk
David Warner returned to the team in the last match against RCB but his poor form continued. In a must-win game, the veteran opener was dismissed for just one run in the very first over. The franchise had high expectations from the Australian but he failed to deliver and that became one of the main reasons behind their unsuccessful campaign.
That's not the case for all Australians, says Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young gun has been a nightmare for almost every opposition he has played against this season. His fearless batting approach right from the word go has given DC many games in their pocket. In eight matches, the right-handed has scored 330 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.41.

Middle-order: Abhishek Porel, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Tristan Stubbs
Abishek Porel has been a great asset to the franchise this season and they might not let him go in the future. A pure team man who is up for any task as required. He has batted from No. 1 to No. 6 positions and never failed to make an impact. He also performed the wicket-keeping duties in Rishabh Pant's absence.
Shai Hope got several chances but failed to impress the management on any occasion. Batting in the middle order, the Windies cricketer is equipped with the role of anchoring, but he often gets out cheaply without spending much time at the crease. Rishabh Pant's absence in the captaincy and middle order was clearly evident in the match against RCB.
He has been DC's most reliable batter in the middle overs, scoring over 413 runs at an average of 41.30 and a strike rate of 156.44. Tristan Stubbs has had very rare failures this season. Batting in the lower middle order, the Proteas power-hitter often gives them fiery finishes. He is also a gun fielder and can chip in with a few overs.

All-rounders: Axar Patel
One of the finest all-rounders in the Indian circuit, Axar Patel is a key cog for Capitals. Although left-arm orthodox bowling is his primary strength, he is also a reliable lower-middle-order batter when the team is in trouble. Look at the recent RCB vs DC match. Though the interim skipper could not take his team through, his lone battle (57 off 39) helped in bringing down the defeat margin.

Bowlers: Rasikh Salam, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma
Rasikh Salam has been a great addition to DC this season. Often playing the role of an Impact Player, the Jammu and Kashmir pacer has been able to make an impact with his wicket-taking prowess. Mukesh Kumar and Ishant Sharma are the leading forces in Delhi's pace department.
Mukesh, who has taken 16 wickets in the series so far, has performed well in the death overs. They will also have assistance from Khaleel Ahmed (probable Impact Substitute), who will deal with the new ball. Kuldeep Yadav will be in charge of the spin attack. He had a poor outing in the last match against RCB but will look to bounce back in the upcoming home game.
