IPL 2024: Flop Overseas XI of sixth week

At the end of the sixth week, things have heated up in the IPL 2024. Barring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) who are placed in the first two spots in the table, all other teams seem to be fighting each other to solidify their position in the top 4. The race for the playoffs is truly on and the teams would want their players to be at their best. In particular, the form of the overseas players will play a key role for the teams.

While some players have been in brilliant form, others have not been in their best form. However, some of the players have performed way below the expectations of the fans and the management. Such players have disrupted the team combination to hand a negative impact for the team. While some of them got dropped, others are being trusted by the teams to deliver the goods at the right time.

Here is the flop overseas XI at the end of the sixth week in the IPL 2024 -

Openers - Quinton De Kock (WK) and Rachin Ravindra

Quinton de Kock has not been up to the mark in the matches he has played so far. In 9 innings, the Southpaw has 236 runs at a batting average of 26.22 along with a strike rate of 136.41, including 3 fifties to his name. However, his impact with the bat has not been great and has been slow in a season where the batters have been highly explosive. In the matches where he did not score fifties,  de Kock fared poorly. He will keep the wickets for this side.

Rachin Ravindra will be the second opener in the side. The Southpaw had a couple of good games for CSK in the first two matches but failed in four other matches. The star batter has 133 runs in 7 innings at a batting average of 19.00, at a batting SR of 164.19 to his name with a best score of 46. While he was aggressive in the first two matches things went downhill when the teams figured out a way to get rid of him. If required, he can bowl a bit as well.

Middle Order - Rilee Rossouw and Shimron Hetmyer

At number three, Rille Rossouw has not been at his best. PBKS batter has 79 runs in 5 innings at a batting average of 15.80, at a batting strike rate of 151.92 with a best score of 43. While the Southpaw has a good SR, his consistency is poor. The batter has got a decent run after being picked by PBKS at the cost of the likes of Atharv Taide, Jonny Bairstow, and Prabsimran Singh. Yet, he has not been able to deliver with the bat as per the expectations of the fans and the management.

Shimron Hetmyer has not gotten many chances to bat. However, he has not been at his best as a batter in the chances he has got. His scores in the league so far are 5 (7), 14 (7), 11 (6), 13 (5), 27 (10), 0 (1), and 13 (9). In 7 innings, the Southpaw has 83 runs at an average of 27.66 at a strike rate of 184.44 with a best score of 27* (10). While the overall stats of Hetmyer look good, he has not been in the form he used to be in the last three seasons.

All-rounders - Glenn Maxwell, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi (C), Marco Jansen, and Mitchell Marsh (Impact substitute)

Glenn Maxwell has been batting poorly in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The star batter has been good with the ball but has not delivered as a batter. Azmatullah Omarzai has not been good with the bat or with the ball. He has done well in the economical upfront but has not picked wickets upfront. Even as a batter, Omarzai could not make an impact as he got dismissed to single-digit scores more often than not. Mohammad Nabi is one of the other all-rounders who has not done well.

The experienced player has not been used well by MI which has led to his bad performances. He will also be the skipper for this side. Marco Jansen has been highly expensive as a bowler. Even as a batter, the South African has not achieved anything special, although he has not gotten enough chances to bat. As a result, Jansen has been in and out of the side. Mitchell Marsh will be the impact player in the side who can be handy with his support as an all-rounder however has been nursing his hamstring injury of late.

Bowlers - Anrich Nortje, Reece Topley, and Alzarri Joseph

Some of the foreign bowlers have fared badly in the league. Anrich Nortje has been the biggest disappointment with the ball. In six matches, the South African pacer has 7 wickets to his name at a bowling average of 42.00 and an economy rate of 13.36, which is outright poor. At the other end, the team has two RCB pacers, Reece Topley and Alzarri Joseph, who have fared badly. Topley did well in one match but was poor in three other matches he played for the 3-time runner-ups.

In four matches, Topley has as many wickets at a bowling average of 42.00, at an economy rate of 11.20, with best bowling figures of 2/27. Alzarri Joseph has not been good either. The West Indian pacer has just a wicket to his name in 3 games at a poor bowling average of 115.00, at an economy rate of 11.89, at a bowling SR of 58.00. He was one of the main reasons for the poor performances of RCB in the first few matches of the season.
