After a thrilling win over Gujarat Giants in their inaugural match of the tournament, UP Warriorz will now take on Delhi Capitals in their next game in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). In the last match, Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris were absolutely sensational and courtesy of which, they managed to win the match by three wickets. Now, in their next game, they would hope to repeat the heroics and register their second win of the season.
Now, the question arises, will they change their tactics and bring in any players or continue with the same team that was successful in their first game? Let’s dissect -
Here’s UP Warriorz’ predicted XI for the match against Delhi Capitals:
Openers - Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Shweta Sehrawat
The dynamic duo of Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat couldn’t really live up to their expectations in the previous match against Gujarat Giants. However, they have got enough firepower and can turn things around in the match against the Meg Lanning-led side.
Healy, who has an enormous amount of experience in the shortest format of the game, has scored 2489 runs from 141 T20I matches in her career. She is known for her ferocious style of play and has the capability to turn things around all by herself.
Meanwhile, youngster Shweta Sehrawat is yet to make her debut for the national team but was sensational in the recently concluded U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. In the semi-final game against New Zealand, the 19-year-old hit 61* off 45 deliveries and helped the team win the match by eight wickets. Thus, she got a lot of potential and with Healy by her side, she would hope to improve and help the Warriors do well in the championship.
Middle Order - Kiran Navgire, Grace Harris, Simran Sheikh
Kiran Mavgire and Grace Harris absolutely stole the show for UP in the previous match. Batting at number three, the 28-year-old Kiran has smashed 53 runs off 43 deliveries and stabilized UP's innings after a shaky start. She took a lot of responsibility and built a sensible partnership with Grace Harris as other players failed to make a mark.
When it comes to Grace, her flawless innings off 59* off 26 deliveries changed the game for the team. The Warriorz needed someone to accelerate and the 29-year-old did her job brilliantly to help her WPL team register the win. Overall, she has played 33 matches for Australia and has scored 334 runs in the process.
Now when it comes to Simran Sheikh, she had a rather poor outing in the opening game. Batting at number seven, she couldn’t open her tally and was dismissed on the very first ball. Thus, there’s room for improvement for the 20-year-old.
All-rounders - Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Devika Vaidya
Australia international Tahlia McGrath failed to put up a show in the previous match. She was dismissed for 0 and also conceded a lot of runs against the Giants. However, the 27-year-old has tremendous quality and is likely to bounce back in the game against Delhi. Overall, Tahlia has played 27 T20I matches for Australia, scoring 615 runs and has also picked up 13 wickets in the process.
25-year-old Deepti Sharma picked up two wickets in the previous match and has scored 11 runs with the bat. Now, even though her bowling looks more or less sorted, it’s the batting that needs to improve. Kiran and Grace may not able to play in the same manner in every game and thus, other players like Deepti needs to step up and do well.
Devika conceded 24 runs in her two overs and also failed to make a mark with the bat in the previous match. Thus, she needs to improve in order to cement her place in the playing XI.
Bowlers - Sophie Ecclestone, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
The number one ranked T20I bowler Sophie Ecclestone picked up two wickets and has also contributed 22 important runs with the bat in the game against Gujarat. She will be UP’s wrecker-in-chief in the WPL and her vast experience in the format will definitely help the franchise in the tournament.
Anjali Sarvani was not at her best and conceded more than 10 runs per over in the last game. Thus, there’s definitely room for improvement while Rajeshwari Gayakwad too leaked a lot of runs and that needs to change. Thus, the team needs to improve significantly with the ball, especially when Delhi scored 223 runs in their last game.
UP Warriorz playing XI: Alyssa Healy (wk/c), Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, Simran Shaikh, Devika Vaidya, Sophie Ecclestone, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
