After a sensational win over Gujarat Giants in their opening game, UP Warriorz suffered a massive 42-run defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals in their previous match. Despite playing well in the first match, they dropped Grace Harris for second game and their middle-order looked pale in the last match.
Other than Australia international Tahlia McGrath, all the other batters failed to perform and that needs to change immediatly. From the bowling point of view, the Alyssa Healy-led side lacks depth as five out of their six bowlers conceded more than 10 runs per over in the last match. Thus, there’s a lot of room for improvement at the moment and the sooner they manage to deal with the issues, the better it will be for the side.
Here’s UP Warriorz’ predicted XI for the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Openers - Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Shweta Sehrawat
The opening duo of Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat have been pretty ordinary so far. Healy started well in the previous match and scored 24 off 17 deliveries before Jess Jonassen got the better of her. However, she has the potential to make a strong comeback.
Meanwhile, Shweta is yet to show her class in the ongoing Women’s Premier League. In two matches so far, the 19-year-old has scored only six runs and that is a massive worry. If she fails again, the cricketer may get dropped and thus, it is going to be an important game for the youngster.
Middle-order - Simran Shaikh, Kiran Navgire
Simran Sheikh has not done much to cement her position in the XI. In the opening game, the 20-year-old could not manage to open her account while in the second match, she scored an unbeaten 6 off 4 at number seven.
Kiran Navgire was one of the reasons why UP managed to win their opening game. However, in the second match against Delhi, she failed to get going as UP lost the match by 42 runs. The top-order batter needs to take more responsibility and support Tahlia McGrath well enough to get the job done.
All-rounders - Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Devika Vaidya
Coming to Tahlia McGrath, the 27-year-old was phenomenal in the last match. She smashed 90* off just 50 deliveries and also picked up a wicket. She has the potential to change the complexion of the match at any time and will be one of the players to watch out for in the upcoming game.
Deepti Sharma has not been at her best in the ongoing WPL. She scored only 12 runs from 20 deliveries in the previous match and conceded 40 runs from her four overs with the ball. When it comes to Devika Vaidya, she looked impressive with the bat in the last match but there’s a lot of room for improvement. Since she is batting lower down the order, the cricketer needs to be more aggressive. Notably, Devika did not bowl in the last match, after conceding 24 runs in two overs in the opening game.
Bowlers - Sophie Ecclestone, Shabnim Ismail, Anjali Sarvani and Rajeshwari Gayakwad
The No. 1 ranked T20I bowler Sophie Ecclestone is yet to show her class in the tournament. She conceded over 40 runs in her four overs in the previous match. If she does not improve in the coming games, the team can replace her with Grace Harris, who was sensational in the opening game.
Replacing Harris in the last game, South Africa ace pacer Shabnim Ismail looked impressive. Even though she managed to pick only one wicket, the seamer was economical in comparison with other players. Coming to the duo of Anjali Sarvani and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, both the players were expensive in the last match. UP’s bowling has been average so far and thus, the players need to improve.
UP Warriorz playing XI: Alyssa Healy (C) (WK), Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Devika Vaidya, Simran Shaikh, Sophie Ecclestone, Shabnim Ismail, Anjali Sarvani, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad
