1. Harry Brook
Harry Brook could essentially be referred to as the 'Bazball' regime's pet project. The middle-order batter has been one of England's most mercurial players since his debut in 2022. He has become an all-format mainstay, not to mention he also leads the Three Lions in both white-ball formats. He oversaw a semi-final finish in the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and has been a key facet as England transitions from Eoin Morgan's successful side. He was also made the vice-captain of the Test side before the winter Ashes, taking over from Ollie Pope, who had stood in for Stokes on multiple occasions.
In an ideal world, Brook would have been the straightforward choice, but his earlier track record would raise doubts about his immediate appointment in the current climate. Brook himself was infamously involved in an altercation with a bouncer in Wellington during England's white-ball tour to New Zealand in late 2025. While he was not severely reprimanded to keep him out of the firing line, the situation casts doubts over his appointment in this scenario.
