1. Mumbai Indians - Cameron Green

Mumbai Indians entered the IPL 2023 auction with INR 20.55 crore in their kitty. Having released the likes of Kieron Pollard (retired), Daniel Sams, and Fabian Allen, they were expected to go after top-drawer all-rounders at the marquee event.

However, not many anticipated the Mumbai franchise to go all out for picking Cameron Green. MI went into a frenzied bidding war with Delhi Capitals to sign the Australian all-rounder and eventually pouched him at an eye-popping sum of INR 17.5 crore.

The 23-year-old is in a nascent stage and has played only 21 games in the shortest format, of which only eight are international matches. Though Green has played some blistering knocks in his handful appearances, the sample size is too small to judge his prowess. Given he is not an established performer in the T20 arena, Mumbai splurging that much cash on him seems an over expenditure.
